Sola Gratia

Overview
Resting lightly on a quiet ridge in the Karoo, Soola Gratia is a quiet composition of stone and shadow set against the vastness of the Grootrivier valley. Its fragmented form has been spaced across the landscape like a scattering of rural outbuildings, never claiming dominance, only presence. Walls of rough stone hold the memory of the earth, while openings frame expansive views of horizon blending into sky. Light moves slowly through the house, tracing time across textured surfaces. The architecture withdraws to reveal what was already there the silence, the distance, the retreat. Sola Gratia is less an object and more an instrument, reattuning life to the rhythms of the Karoo.
